New Forest Day Drive

Exploring from the forest to the ocean

About a dozen cars were due to meet at Beaulieu for the “Simply Italian” day on Sunday 21st April.  Sadly the event has been postponed until July due to waterlogged grass parking areas.  This was disappointing but our organisers, Chris & Aneta, came up with an alternative plan for those of us who fancied a day drive around the New Forest area.

Chris & Aneta have an excellent reputation for organising events following their spectacular trip to Poundbury last year.  Some members might have doubted Chris’ description of the route as “stunning,” but, there is no chance of a successful prosecution under the Trade Description Act as our drive was nothing less than as described!  The weather was kind to us and we had a truly brilliant day.

Full marks go to Ross Williams; he suffered a last minute problem with his Barchetta, but still attended in his other car.  Chris & Aneta led James Venn, plus me with my wife Jenny, Tony & Kay Rifugiato and Jonathan Lake with his pal Michael.  (Really pleased to meet these members who have not previously joined an event.)

I thought I knew the New Forest pretty well but we were taken to places not previously discovered.  Lepe on the coast with views across to The Isle of Wight provided a spectacular first stop and coffee.  We travelled on through Beaulieu, Lymington and Brockenhurst (The water-splash tested our little boats!) and continued on past the magnificent giant Redwood Conifers to lunch at the well chosen High Corner Inn.

The Club provided a little help with expenses.  Most of all we owe thanks to Chris & Aneta for arranging a really enjoyable day.
