During our 2023 meeting at Poundbury a special “best car” award was made following up a suggestion by member Steve Auty at the previous year’s meeting. David, affectionately known as DOJ, and his wife Kim attended both annual meetings and day drives that had been arranged for a number of years. He was an enthusiastic member and had become a friend to many of us. David owned two Barchettas and all of us that knew him were devastated to learn that what was a suspected foot problem in 2019 was actually the terrible disease of MND. David died in March 2022 and is a much missed member of our little community. It is not surprising then that Steve’s suggestion of an annual award in David’s name was brought to fruition, as indeed it was at Poundbury 2023.
The cars were judged by an independent car enthusiast whilst all owners were enjoying Mapperton House & Gardens. A sealed envelope was produced and opened at the AGM. The proud first winner of the award was Steve Skelly from Bangor Co. Down with his beautiful orange car. The presentation was made by Sandy Ranson, outgoing Club Secretary.
I hope I am allowed a little pride in this matter as the award, which is unique, was hand made by my son Toby from a piece of solid oak. It is a handsome piece fitting and suitable for the purpose. I sincerely hope that this little ceremony is repeated in the years to come.

Well done Steve and Carol… you certainly have the car to beat!
The award is a lovely idea. Congratulations to Steve and Carol as the first worthy winners!
Lovely idea, lovely award and lovely car!
I’m glad David has been remembered for all time by this award. Will the names of the winners be added to the award ?
David was always good to chat to, and I feel so sorry for Kim. I’ve some photos of him, which I can send to any email, if required.
Hi Nick, yes the plan is to have each of the award winners names on the award.
