North Wales Day Drive

Brian Poole has devised another day drive.  This one is planned for mid September and promises to be as spectacular as the previous drives that Brian has organised.  The area of North Wales to be explored holds some spectacular scenery plus the important industrial heritage site of Thomas Telford’s aqueduct.  If you are able to travel to Wrexham and are interested in this venture please let us know by contacting me at :  president@fiatbarchetta.uk

Fiat Barchetta meet and drive to the “End of the World.”

Starting in Wrexham and driving through the Welsh Clwydian Range and the Dee Valley.

Sunday, September 15th – 10.30 am for a 11.00 start.

Starting at Morrisons Supermarket, Ruthin Road, Wrexham LL13 7TU. Cafe, toilets and E5 Super unleaded available.

First stop the Minera lead mines, going on to Worlds End and crossing the Offa’s Dyke path (due to the remote location of Worlds End some single track driving is required). Making our way to the A542, taking in the famous Horseshoe Pass and a comfort stop at the Ponderosa Cafe to take a look back at the views.

Joining the A5104 and driving down through the Afon Morwynion Valley, heading for the town of Corwen before cutting across to the Dee Valley and joining the A5 into Llangollen, known as The Gateway to Wales.

Llangollen is a busy touristy town and a visitor destination in its own right. It will require a lengthier stop. The Aldi car park is next to the River Dee and provides a nice few minutes riverside walk in to Llangollen town. The walk is also an ideal location for a picnic, if the weather is nice.

Leaving Llangollen on the A5 it’s a short drive to the World famous Pontcysylite Aqueduct.  The stop here will allow time to actually walk on the Aqueduct. (reasonable car park charges)

Returning to Llangollen via the A539 and crossing the bridge in Llangollen to return in the opposite direction that we came on via the A5. It’s a short drive to the chain Bridge Hotel that sits nicely beside the River Dee (white water), the Llangollen Canal and the Steam Railway line.

It’s only a short Canal side walk to The Horseshoe Falls.

The Hotel  bar and restaurant will provide an ideal ending to the day’s meeting.
